The Yearbook: 2009
Windows 7 Consumer launch : 7 November 2009 @ Low Yat Plaza, and nationwide roadshow
We never thought we'd see it again, large crowds queuing from sunset, rushing in to be the first SEVEN Windows 7 customers! Forsaking dinner and rush hour traffic, you piled in to make the official launch for Windows 7 a record feat. Thanks to you, the Win7Malaysia Facebook group was the fastest growing fan page in Malaysia!

From 7:07pm, we witnessed throngs of people posing with a "7" and Etsu Rion declared as the final champion (as Facebook Fans agreed with a whopping 700+ "Likes"!). Meanwhile, Michael Teng scored nearly 700 "Likes" with a self-portraiture to "What would I give up for Windows 7?" Some of you put on your creative hats for the WebHunt and it was Junaidi Aminuddi's entry that caught the eyes of the judges - [W]orks [I]nstantly, [N]o [D]elays, [O]nly [W]indows [S]e[7]en.

Other notable entries include - "7 days without Windows 7 makes one "weak" by Jonathan Luke Raj, "Windows 7 gives the most Professional experience and Ultimate pleasure" by Jeffery Su "Windows 7, where dreams and reality walk side-by-side" by Bernard Yeoh and "Pirate adventures via online, Windows 7's treasure is all mine" N Azlin Sha

Risky Business Seminar : 15 December 2009 @ The Westin Hotel, KL
Technical & Business security leads - you ROCK! Over two dozen of you joined us for an update on the Security Intelligence Report (SIR), version 7.0 (released in July 2009). Also, you got solid insight into Microsoft's security strategy, featuring the Security Development Lifecycle, Microsoft's Security Response Center, update processes, tools, products, services and resources.

Made For 7 Coding Contest : 14 August to 7 November 2009
The Malaysian Independent Developers (MIND) community organized a coding contest in conjunction with the launch of Windows 7. The quest? Build an application leveraging one of the core features, Windows Touch, in Windows 7. It drew a record number of 52 entries. The winning entry was a multi-touch Windows 7 game - only one of few available in the world today! In spite of the short time, the winning team worked hard and creatively used a web camera in a box using a software called Community Core Vision to test their application as they lacked proper hardware such as multi touch LCD monitors. Congratulations Chong Yang and Jit Ren on your amazing feat, and here's wishing you every success in the ImagineCup 2010 competition!

TechInsight - an event by the community for the community: 17-18 September 2009 @ Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Penang

More, more, more! You asked, we delivered. And 96% of you who attended the event said you'd return next year...
  • "thanks for everything... good momentum, keep it up... ;)"
  • "Thanks for the sessions! The best ever in town!"
  • "I had such a great time with the attendees and speakers. Thanks for everything! Well done."

We decided to use social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and website for marketing and over 200 of you proved us right! Against this backdrop, Microsoft's Valued Professionals (MVPs) enjoyed organizing and presenting to IT Pros and Developers in the Northern regions, just as much as you enjoyed hearing from them about the latest tips and tricks in the breadth of Microsoft's server and development tools.

System Center Solutions Summit : 14-15 December 2009 @ KL
To the 70 IT Pros who made this RADICAL - Thank you! The System Center User Group (SCUG) treated infrastructure management enthusiasts to a taste of Microsoft's System Center, Hyper-V, Application Virtualization, Enterprise Desktop Virtualization and Windows 7 - all designed to improve and assist organizations to better manage and monitor their IT environments for better efficiency and productivity. Our speakers, leading industry specialists from Asia and the United States, and sponsors, enjoyed your feedback and banter over the 2-day technical education session.

Innovation Days have been running for a couple of years now, and we continue only because of your committed support. Across 6 months, nearly 160 Chief Technology Officers, Software Architects, Software Developers & Technopreneurs digged into technology updates, with demonstrations on the latest tools & features of Microsoft technologies. Thank you for keeping the sparks of innovation going!
  • "Very informative. Good work done! Will look forward to future Innovation Day events!"
  • "Interesting session and very informative but the presentation session is too short. Hope to see more of this type of event in the future"
  • "I think it is very good! Thank you"

Visual Studio 2008 & MSDN Seminar : 19 February 2009 @ Microsoft Auditorium, KLCC
146 developers and development project leads gave us the vote of confidence - Visual Studio 2008 Professional and MSDN subscription are seriously hebat! Thank you for giving us the thumbs up in these areas - that the Microsoft software and program helps you build applications in an integrated environment, develop and test applications in virtual environments and build client and web applications easily.

This year's TechNet and MSDN conferences nationwide were simply magical. 550 IT Pros and Developers dabbling with Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010 & Visual Studio 2010 (prior to launch) - you guys are just AWESOME! We can't wait to see what you'll be putting out with these new technologies.

And there you have it, good folks - a year of bravados. A year of celebrating "you" - the IT Professionals and Developers of Malaysia. Thank you, for making it so worth our while!
